Why support Horizon?
Horizon Project is a nonprofit that partners with Umatilla County, the State of Oregon, and the federal government to provide community-based care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Though funded largely by government fees for services, funding isn’t sufficient to cover many essentials.
Please consider supporting Horizon Project today. Your generosity will help improve the lives of adults experiencing I/DD in our community. Because Horizon is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, your donations may be tax deductible.
General Fund
Crucial funding to help wherever the need is greatest.
Where your gift helps
From new furniture for our group homes to wheelchair vans to unexpected costs — such as the PPE needed to protect clients and staff from COVID-19 — your gift will go where funds are most needed.
Giving on a budget? Consider a recurring monthly gift of any amount. Customize your gift to fit your budget; you can change the amount or cancel any time.
Client Assistance Fund
Many of the people of Horizon have no money, no family, and no one who can offer assistance. You can help. Some crucial needs cost just a few dollars — say for a medication, or a warm jacket — while others can cost up to several hundred, such as replacing wheelchairs or purchasing adaptive or medical assistance devices. Any amount you can give will help improve the lives of those we serve. 100% of these donations go to those we support.
Where your gift helps
- End of life expenses
- Burial and/or cremation costs; Memorial services or celebration of life events
- Memorial services or celebration of life events
Who your donations help? People like Gene*, who lived in Horizon group homes for over 10 years, making friends who became his family. When Gene passed away in his early 60s, there weren’t sufficient funds to pay for cremation or a memorial service where his house mates and support staff could celebrate his life. The Horizon Project Client Assistance Fund helps memorialize people in our community.
- Life enhancements
- IT – software, hardware and new technologies that help teach skills and support people in our integrated employment programs
- Accessories for Horizon vans, which allow many to be more mobile
- Special furniture for group homes, such as self-elevating recliners for aging residents with physical and developmental disabilities
Who your donations help? People like Janet*, who is in her 20s and energetic, humorous and nonverbal, with limited mobility. She learns well and is both eager and determined. Janet dreams of work in the community, made possible by the right technological supports.
- Critical care
- Out-of-pocket costs for hospital or nursing home care for residents of group homes
- Medical equipment or medicines needed by many of our more medically fragile individuals but not covered by Medicaid, such as mechanical wheelchairs or hospital beds
Who your donations help? People like Frank*, whose diabetes makes his skin fragile and slow to heal. He also has difficulty maneuvering, so he injures himself easily, causing painful open and infected sores. A medicated cream could help protect Frank’s skin. It’s not that pricey, but his safety-net insurance doesn’t cover it, and he can’t afford it on his own. That means he ends up in the hospital, enduring costly wound treatment that is covered.
